Fernanda Toledo is a Brazilian ceramic artist and writer based in Seattle, Washington. Working with stoneware clay and hand-building techniques, she weaves together design and emotion, creating sculptural pieces that merge artistic expression with the beauty found in imperfection. Her practice relies on intuitive gestures that arise from the manual process itself, a constant negotiation between hand, memory, and matter.
Cicatrizes II is the second layer of an ongoing collection that explores the transfiguration of marks through the forms of vessels, revealing the quiet beauty of a healing body. Cicatrizes dwells in duality: fragility and strength. Each piece carries a mark inspired by those her mother bore in the final years of her life, marks that, through clay, transform pain into vessels of tenderness and remembrance. These pieces are also companions, they invite closeness, touch, and time, like a real cicatriz (scar).
